Cancelled: Jan 12: Group Ensemble & Compositional Awareness Workshop

Saturday, January 12, 2013
Workshop: 1:00-3:00pm; Open Jam: 3:00-5:00pm
Location: Kelly's Barn (1360 Sumac Ave)
Facilitated by J. Akiyama

Would you like to expand and extend your group awareness during your improvisational dance?
During this two hour mini-workshop, we will explore engaging with the collective creativity of the "ensemble" while staying true to one's own individuality and "solo" experience.  Using exercises and research from Nancy Stark Smith, Playback Theatre, and other improvisational arts, we will cultivate creativity, trust, listening skills, receptivity, initiative, and openness to incorporate into our dance.  Through simple exercises and more open improvisational scores, we'll take a look at various ways to interact with others, bring and realize your potential as a part of a group, and find resources for relational inspiration within and outside of ourselves. Come explore and nurture your latent compositional awareness!
The workshop is open to those with familiarity with basic CI principles who wish to explore working in group ensemble improvisations.

There will also be a two hour jam (3:00-5:00pm) after the workshop (open to everyone!).

Cost: $20 for workshop; $5-10 for jam.

The maximum number of participants for this workshop will be 12 people.
